Privacy notice
This notice explains how RetroIntel (“we”, “us”) handles personal information collected through retrointel.com. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and we send commercial electronic messages in accordance with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
1. Who is responsible
RetroIntel is an independent editorial desk operated from Australia. It publishes reviews of free Android puzzle games and does not sell, distribute or operate any of the games described on the site. Questions about this notice can be sent to desk@retrointel.com.
2. What we collect
- Briefing form data. The email address you submit, and your name if you choose to provide one. No telephone number is requested anywhere on this site.
- Notification data. If you allow browser notifications, our provider stores a subscription identifier generated by your browser, together with browser type, operating system, language and approximate location derived from your IP address.
- Technical log data. Our hosting provider records IP address, user agent, referring page, requested URL and the time of the request.
- Analytics and advertising identifiers. Cookies and similar identifiers set by analytics and advertising partners, where you have agreed to those categories in the cookie notice.
- Correspondence. Anything you write to us by email, kept so that we can answer and, where relevant, publish a correction.
We do not ask for identity documents, payment card details or any sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act.
3. Why we use it
- To send the RetroIntel briefing and, if allowed, browser notifications about new entries and collections.
- To operate, secure and improve the site, and to understand which entries are read.
- To display and measure advertising placements, where you have agreed to advertising cookies.
- To administer a paid reader plan once billing is available, including confirming what was purchased and for which period.
- To answer correspondence and to meet our obligations under Australian law.
4. Consent and choice
Subscription to the briefing is based on the consent you give when you tick the box on the form. Browser notifications require a second, separate permission granted in your browser. You can revoke either permission at any time: use the unsubscribe link in any letter, switch notifications off in your browser's site settings, or ask us to delete your subscription record. Revoking consent does not affect messages already sent.
5. Service providers
We use a small number of processors who act on our instructions:
- OneSignal — delivery of email and browser notifications, and storage of subscription records.
- Hosting and content delivery — serving the site and keeping server logs.
- Analytics and advertising networks — audience measurement and the placements that fund the site.
Some of these providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles the information in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
6. How long we keep it
- Subscription records: until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, and then removed within thirty days.
- Server logs: up to twelve months.
- Analytics and advertising identifiers: as set out in the cookie notice, generally up to twenty-four months.
- Records relating to a paid plan: for as long as Australian tax and consumer records require, normally seven years.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to subscription records is limited to the people who run the desk and to the providers listed above. No system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure, but if a data breach likely to cause serious harm occurs, we will notify affected people and the regulator as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
8. Your rights
You may ask us to give you access to the personal information we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, to delete it, or to stop sending you messages. Write to desk@retrointel.com and we will answer within thirty days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
9. Children
The site is written for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 15. If you believe a child has subscribed, write to us and we will remove the record.
10. Changes to this notice
If this notice changes, the updated date at the top of the page changes with it, and material changes are announced in the briefing. Continuing to use the site after an update means the current version applies.
